This concert will explore these questions through the music of Heinrich Ignaz Biber (Mystery Sonatas), Francis Poulenc (Sonata for Violin and Piano) and Bruce Saylor (Dante Suite). In Falling Bodies, Nine Circles Chamber Theatre imagines a meeting between the 16th century Italian scientist-poet Galileo Galilei and the 20th century Italian poet-scientist Primo Levi. Dropping balls from the Tower of Pisa, watching soccer on a TV in a bar, listening to a concert in a village café, the two ponder their own searches for truth during lives marked by inquisition and despair, the price one pays for survival, and the restorative power of celery. |
